November 8-10 I attended the 2012 Young Dressage Horse Trainer Symposium hosted by Riveredge Farm and Hassler Dressage in Maryland. This was a great tune-up for me, since I had not attended since the inaugural symposium in 2004. This is an invitation only event, even for "alumni" now, so it was an honor to have the chance to participate.
The presenters were Scott Hassler, Ingo Pape and Oliver Oelrich, who is the current German young horse coach. Although the program is designed to support those with goals of showing in the FEI Young Horse classes, it was also a great reminder of how the training scale applies to every level, and the importance of correct basics. A big thank you to the Hasslers and Harmony Sporthorses for sponsoring such a unique event.
